Isn't the young lady in the video sweet! I love it when young viewers talk about my work, I find it exciting. Did I ever tell you it was because of a young 8 year old viewer of my work at an exhibition at Kings University in Edmonton that really got me into studying, watching, photographing and painting birds as a major part of my art practice. I love youth, they are so inspiring.

Anyhow, at King's I had a memorial painting of my father with birds in it and this young lady stood looking at it for so long I had to ask what she saw "its alive, its so alive" was her comment. Well I was hooked, her words meant more to me than any spoken that night, in fact thats about all I really remember of the evening. As all things change my art practice has evolved to include 3.5 years of making hand-built birds nests, the irony of which no bird will ever nest in. Yet I can attribute it all back to that one comment which inspired me to learn about birds. So you can imagine how excited I am to see this young viewer talking about my work, yes, I am ecstatic!

Exhibition hung at Milner Gallery, Edmonton

Its been a busy month preparing for this exhibition as Gerald and I built designer frames for some of the paintings. On the far wall the Pelicans have a mapped frame which took many hours of collage to complete, what was I thinking, lol. It looks good and adds a new dimension to the painting so thats what matters. I did not re-price so who-ever buys during this exhibition gets a fantastic deal for their money.

In the showcases to the left an artist has covered canvas with postage stamps and three of her works also have maps under the postage stamps which I find interesting as I used alberta maps and rice paper on three designer frames.

This space is larger and more spread out than I envisioned.

 Gerald did a great job in hanging the show and also took these photos as my camera was at home. The three paintings in the recessed areas all have new black frames which we took to a framer to build.
I realize I still need to take close-up photos of the pieces with designer frames as the frames took a lot of time and work to complete and have essentially become part of the art.
This exhibition of eleven paintings is up for the month of February at the downtown Milner Public Library in the Milner Gallery which is between the library and Starbucks.

Finally getting around to posting the piece I submitted for "The Road to Emmaus" Exhibition presently showing at The House in Calgary. I definately have fun and enjoy the challenge of creating images on themes presented by various shows. 

This is the Emmaus Fine Arts yearly group show which travels to requesting churches for the rest of the year.

Media: Textile fabric collage, photo pigment printed on cotton, acrylic paint, embellished with machine stitching, antique buttons, ribbons, brass bells and a brass heart.

Roadside Conversation

Two buddies trudge along the roadside, the receding sun enveloping into twilight the dark events that took place only a few days before. A stranger overtaking them intercedes their conversation, questioning, prying their torn hearts, interloping on their grief. Out of courtesy do they speak, telling the stranger of hope of rescue crucified with their prophet. The stranger reiterates prophesies of scripture, moreover, reprimands them of faltering faith and their lack of acknowledging the women who spoke of the empty tomb. Was it not foretold, he asks.
